How come companies can afford to provide free web hosting but not free.com domains?

The companies cant make profit by providing free dot com domains as know.

For but for but for domain just as they would lose lot of profit trying to provide free since the web hosting is provisioned on the host per domain just as they cost the web hosting is easier to provide free com names.
